Hola

Guideline at miataturbo.net is around 250 hp on the 5 speed, 350 on the 6 speed. Some of those guys are running serious boost on the 6 speeds. Be advised you'll need to change your rear end, as the 6 speed is geared lower than the 5. Stock is 4.3:1 on the 5 speed and 3.9 on the 6, which gives overall just about the same top gear RPM.

5 speed clutch is said to start slipping before 200 hp. I don't know how much the 6 speed clutch can handle, but I doubt it'll hold up to 250 hp.

How long did your 5 speed last at 250 hp? If and when I go turbo, my goal will/would be to keep boost low enough that I can keep my 5 speed. 250 hp is just about where stock rods start bending, and that's not a playground that I want to play in, either.

The rumour about MSM transmissions being stronger is that Mazda advertised the gears to be plated. However, people who've taken them apart have seen no difference between them and the non-MSM 6 speeds, so they may have all been plated. Last I read, there was no consensus as to whether the MSM box actually has an advantage over other 6 speeds.
